KNOW THE TRUTH
YOUTH PEER SUPPORT SERVICES
ONLY ABOUT1 in 10 PEOPLE WITH A SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF SPECIALTY TREATMENT ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON DRUG ABUSE.
The Know the Truth™ Prevention Program (KTT) is addressing the need for increased chemical health support by partnering with schools across Minnesota to provide Youth Peer Support Services in addition to a full continuum of prevention services.
Know the Truth Youth Peer Support Specialists (YPSS) play a key role in promoting detection, evaluation and early intervention. As successful examples of recovery themselves, Youth Peer Support Specialists can attest to the effectiveness of treatment, rehabilitation, and support. They can help youth identify their need for services, resolve ambivalence about receiving services, and strengthen their motivation for change. Additionally, YPSS act as a bridge between youth in distress and what many young people have experienced to be an impersonal, imposing, and confusing support system.
Know the Truth’s Youth Peer Support Groups are facilitated by trained Peer Recovery Support Specialists who provide evidence-informed curriculum through a relatable peer to peer approach. Each KTT group facilitator is a key player in prevention, trained to serve diverse populations. Taking the ever-adapting facts and equipping students with information, in a way that is easy for them to understand. Relatability to students, is key in helping them understand the underlying issues for why they use and identifying potential risk factors in their lives.
